AGM Highlight: Mike Hanson Made A Life Member

At the NBRS Annual General Meeting on June 14 at Toronto it was announced that Mike Hanson, long-time volunteer who has served on the NBRS board and has also been on staff as VoicePrint Managing Director, has been named a Life Member and inducted into our Silver Palettte Club.
    What follows is a transcription of Mr. Hanson’s introduction and his acceptance remarks.

Katita Star, NBRS Board Chair: So now I would like to invite Arlene Patterson, who’s our Director of VoicePrint Operations, to say a few words about a person who since 1991 has helped our organization as a volunteer reader, a director, a member of a board committee and, more recently, as Managing Director of our VoicePrint division. A total of 16 years service to be presented with a Life Membership. And I might also add that he owns that sexy deep recorded voice you hear when you call our offices. Arlene… 

Arlene Patterson, Director of VoicePrint Operations: Thanks Katita. Hi. The Silver Palette recognizes individuals for outstanding service to NBRS, and most of us know first-hand that Mike Hanson has contributed to this organization in a number of ways and in a variety of roles. But do you truly know what makes that contribution outstanding? Regardless of the task or the title that he undertakes Mike always shares his commitment, his drive and his experience. And, of course, as only he can, that well-timed one-liner. So…ladies and gentleman it is my privilege to introduce our newest inductee Mike Hanson. 

Mike Hanson, Silver Palette Inductee: That’s very nice, I think the only thing that’s silver or maybe [is] my hair, God knows the spoon I was born with in my mouth resembles one of my feet, more often than not. And my palette is more often an inflamed red. But I’m really proud to receive this. And I really don’t have to add any reasons… You heard them all from [Board member and chair of the National Program Committee] Betty Nobel tonight. Imagine serving a huge and important population like Betty [represents]. It makes you proud just to hear that that kind of good happens every day with all the volunteers and everybody else who’s contributed over the years. I’m very proud of this, very pleased and I thank you very much. Good luck in the future.
